Professor Darren Lilleker
Dr Darren Lilleker is Professor of Political Communication at Bournemouth University. His research focuses on public engagement and participation in political and civic life and the role of media as enabler.
He was newsletter editor and subsequently chair of the East Dorset branch of the Campaign for Real Ale and now is organiser of Poole Beer Festival. He is a champion of the pub as a local hub and in his CAMRA roles led a number of campaigns to protect and save community pubs.
He is also active in the current campaign ‘Buy Local or Bye Bye Local’ which encourages support for local pubs selling takeaway beer during the lockdown. Combining these interests he sees the pub as a hub of civic life, a place where views can be exchanged and ideas can be shared, the existence of which is of.
