PRESS RELEASE
Campaign for Pubs
Get out and support pubs this #PUBruary!
#Pubruary, supported and promoted by Campaign for Pubs, is encouraging people across the UK to visit and support pubs this February, celebrating their role as vital social spaces at the heart of communities.
As part of the campaign, Campaign for Pubs has produced a series of images to help pubs, customers and supporters promote #Pubruary on social media and online.
February is seen by many as a time to look ahead, reconnect socially and enjoy the role pubs play in bringing people together — whether that’s for a drink, a meal, watching live sport, enjoying live music or quizzes, or simply spending time with others. It’s also often a tough month for pubs and publicans, so an ideal time for all pub lovers to get out and support their local pubs.
Despite their social importance, pubs continue to face significant pressures during this cost-of-living crisis, with rising costs, low consumer confidence and the ongoing overtaxation of pubs by Government, through unsustainably high VAT, business rates and employers costs.
Publicans are keen to stress that support does not have to be extravagant — small, regular visits can make a real difference.
By visiting and supporting pubs this February, everyone can play their part in supporting our world famous pubs!
The Campaign for Pubs is asking people in February:
- To visit their local pub or pubs as often as they can – and at least once a week during #Pubruary
- To show their support by posting #Pubruary graphics on their social media
- To thank hardworking publicans and staff for their work throughout the year.
- Choose pubs as places to meet, eat, relax, watch sport and socialise
Dawn Hopkins, Vice-Chair of the Campaign for Pubs, and a licensee in Norwich said:
“Pubruary is about celebrating pubs as places where people can come together and an important part of our heritage. They’re spaces for friendships, conversations, community events and shared experiences — from watching sport together to marking everyday moments that matter.
“Pubs are hugely important to local economies and for tourism all over the UK. They are also vital for local communities as meeting places, safe and welcoming spaces at the heart of a community. Pubruary is a simple reminder that choosing the pub matters.”
“Choosing to visit your local pub — even just for one drink or one meal in February — helps ensure those spaces remain part of our communities. So get out and support pubs this Pubruary!”
