Campaign for Pubs letter to Scottish Licensing Boards about World Cup 2026 opening hours – 21st January 2026
Dear Licensing Board members,
Please allow pubs and bars to open for the Scotland World Cup matches!
On behalf of all licensees in Scotland, we would like to urge you to seriously consider allowing extended licensing hours to allow pubs to show live Scotland games during the 2026 World Cup.
As you know, this is Scotland’s first World Cup appearance since 1998, a source of huge pride and a once-in-a-generation event of national importance. As well as those lucky enough to have been at Hampden Park, many thousands of people watched the historic victory against Denmark in pubs and bars up and down the country. With Scotland’s group matches being in Boston and Miami, the kick-off times are 2am and 11pm, which means that for people to be able to watch the games in their local pub or bar, as many would wish to, pubs and bars will require later closing.
